Microchip and register your pets to make a difference!
Return To Owner Success
Every day, beloved pets are brought to Contra Costa Animal Services (CCAS) in Martinez as “found stray animals”. The CCAS team treats these animals with high priority to find their owners and to reunite the family with the pet. What enables that process to move quickly? Microchips that are registered to the current owner. Think about this:
81% of stray dogs with a registered chip or rabies ID are reclaimed by their owners at CCAS (well above the national average of 52.2%)
40% of stray cats with registered chips are reclaimed by their owners at CCAS (above national average of 38.5%)
Sadly, only 12.6% of stray dogs without ID are reclaimed by their owners at CCAS (and the dogs are at the Shelter longer before they are found by their owners)
Only 1.1% of stray cats without ID are reclaimed by their owners at CCAS.
Microchip and register your pets!
Microchips are easy to implant and are typically implanted when your pet is spayed or neutered or when they receive annual vaccinations. It's a "one and done" procedure that is not painful and does not require any healing process for your pet. Once the microchip is implanted, make it a priority to register your pet online following the instructions you will receive with the microchip.
Be a part of the goal to keep every pet in a loving home and with their families!
