Shelter Enhancements
Special projects designed to enhance care and support provided to animals in the care of Contra Costa Animal Services and its volunteers. Here are a few examples:

Kuranda Bed Rollout
The idea of the Foundation really started with a donation in 2024 to purchase, build, and place Kuranda beds in every dog kennel. A team of dedicated volunteers built almost 200 beds of various sizes that were placed in kennels to increase the comfort of dogs in the care of Contra Costa Animal Services.
Ward Soundproofing
Soundproofing tiles and supplies were purchased and installed by that same group of dedicated volunteers in every cat ward to absorb noise and to create a calmer environment.
Soundproofing reduced noise up to 10 dB. in each ward, leading to the expansion of the project throughout CCAS. Volunteers maintain the installed soundproofing tiles, the Foundation continues to work with CCAS leadership on more permanent solutions to absorb sound, creating a calmer environment for all animals.

Play Yard Enrichment
Sandboxes, sprinklers, and other items were purchased by the Foundation to support play yard fun for the dogs. In Septmber, a special Foundation sponsored Bark BQ highlighted enrichment programs. CCAS leadership & volunteers flipped burgers & hot dogs for the dogs and treated cats to their own BBQ chicken. Each play yard was filled with different types of enrichment for the dogs to experience with their volunteer handlers. Room service was provided to animals under kennel restrictions so everyone could enjoy the event.
Kitten Foster Program
The Foundation purchased two new incubators to support our most vulnerable and at risk animals in our community, neonatal kittens. These incubators will help to more quickly stabilize neonatal kittens that are brought into CCAS care and set them up for early success in foster homes.

Coming Soon...
Plans are underway to enhance the cat environments, which may include more cat towers and ramps, cat TV, and an outdoor cat enclosure. The Foundation is also working with CCAS to create environments that support dog agility training, barn hunts, and scent work.
